Get Your House In Order
What would it look/feel like to have your house in order so you don’t even have to spring or fall clean?! One of the wonderful byproducts of getting organized is that we clean as we go.
Moving helps people get their houses in order - but if all you are doing is packing everything up and storing unopened boxes can we really say that?
But if we’re downsizing - or we’re already in a smaller space - does that equal more order? Not necessarily.
Can less stuff mean more order? Probably helpful.
So whether you are de-stuffing or just moving things around - let’s at least create some order!
You might notice that we ask a lot of questions. That’s coaching. Ask yourself questions. Make the questions really relevant. Answer them truthfully. Then ask another question to guide you along your path.
Let’s say you want to coach yourself around getting your house in order. Here’s what that could look/sound like:
Coachee: I want to get my house in order!
Coach: What does that exactly mean to you?
Coachee: Well, I want to go through every room and get it ship shape.
Coach: Let’s start with one room. You choose.
Coachee: The space where I work/create.
Coach: How will you know when you have your space in order? What will that look like?
Coachee: Oh, well, I guess it doesn’t really need a remodel per se. No painting or anything like that. I just want it to function and be creative and work for me. I don’t care what anyone else thinks as I can close the door. It just needs to work for and inspire me.
Coach: Close your eyes and envision your space the way you want it. Describe it with lots of detail…
Coachee: My work surface is large - I like to spread out. It’s near a window that lets lots of light in. I have a pretty curtain on the window and things on the walls that both inspire me and that are tools for my work. My desk faces my vision board/collage and a board where I post all my little notes to self that I reference for my work and inspo. I have a wall planner to plan out my marketing and development. There is a fireplace behind me to warm me and my cat when she decides to take up residence on her chair. I have a rug under my feet to keep me warm and a supportive chair with a lumbar pillow. I have fun light fixtures and whimsy sprinkled throughout the space. Lots of colors and inspirational trinkets. I have a book shelf with books, binders, file bins…
Coach: Describe the sounds, smells, sense you have when you are in this space.
Coachee: There is white noise and the crackle of a fire. I’ll bring in some aromatherapy. This is one of my happy places.
Coach: Sounds lovely. What will it take for you to create this wonderful space for yourself?
Coachee: Mostly time and effort to get the bulk of things where I want them and fine tune from there.
Coach: Is this something you’d like to put on your schedule and prioritize?
Coachee: Yes, actually!
Coach: What does that look like?
Coachee: I will dedicate one full day to recreating my workspace to work better for me!
Coach: When will you do that?
Coachee: Monday is a holiday - so Monday!
Coach: Will you take a before and after photo and share it with me?
Coachee: Yes, I will!
Coach: I look forward to celebrating your beautiful space with you!
