Practice Inconsistently

Dear Coachable Organized You,

As we get started on a new or long lost project, it’s important to set ourselves up for success. We’re not looking for perfection. Read that again.

As you start to immerse yourself in your project through repetition, you will stumble. Another project will take over, at least momentarily. You’ll get a poor night’s sleep. You’ll prep for a trip, take it, and play catch up when you return. And then you’ll pick up your creative project once again. Some days will flow; others won’t. That’s okay.

You’re making progress. You’re taking action. You’re creating. You’re moving things forward. It may be a bumpier road than the smooth one you had envisioned but you will be on your path! You will be able to look back after a month, a season, a year and say, “Look at what I did/accomplished!” “Look how far I’ve come!” You will have created so much more than you would have if you had never started in the first place.

I used to think I needed large swaths/blocks of uninterrupted time. Now I grab a couple hours here, a few hours there, a half a day or a day depending on how the creative juices are flowing.

I’d like to encourage you to stop thinking in terms of time. Of 24 hours in a day or 40 hour work weeks. Of hours at all. I’d like you to think more about energy, routines, immersion, consistency, practice, repetition. We’re building muscle here. One “workout” at a time.

The goal is to flow. Whether that’s for an hour, a day, or somewhere in between.

Self-Coaching snippet around “Practicing”

Consider the following Self-Coaching questions ~

Choose a few and practice answering them:)

Where am I flowing?/Where am I not flowing?

What does flow look like to me?

What could help me flow better?

Am I taking action in the area(s) I want to be taking action?

What do I want to create?

What will I move forward this week?

What does it look like to be on my path?

Where do I want to be a month, season, year from now?

How will I set myself up for success?
